We believe the biggest barrier to making physical things isn't talent, it's access. Access to tools, space, components, and someone who's been there before.

o1 lab creates free, open-access spaces where anyone with an idea can walk in and start building. We provide the equipment, the expertise, and the support — you bring the curiosity. No gatekeeping, no prerequisites, no pitch decks.

Not a startup. Not an incubator. Just really good spaces with the right stuff in them.
Our Spaces

We partner with communities and organisations across Sydney to create free, open-access spaces for builders. Each space is different, but the mission is the same.

o1 lab at Arrayah — Drummoyne workshop

Arrayah

Open
Drummoyne, Sydney

Our first space, embedded in the Arrayah hackerhouse community. Set up alongside builders and founders, with the essentials for quick prototyping and tinkering — 3D printers, soldering stations, electronics, components, and people who know how to use them.

Assembly

Coming Soon
Redfern, Sydney

The next iteration of o1 lab. A dedicated space in Redfern — at the intersection of tech and deep tech in Sydney, on the doorstep of universities and innovation hubs. A collaboration between multiple entities to create something bigger for the community.

01

Open Access

Walk in. Use the tools. Ask questions. Leave inspired. Every o1 lab space is open to anyone working on hardware — hobbyist, artist, student, whoever.

02

Engineering Support

Stuck on a circuit? Need help with a microcontroller? Someone's always around to help you debug, design, or just think it through.

03

Community

Cross-pollination between artists, engineers, musicians, and tinkerers. The best ideas happen when different worlds collide in the same room.

We exist for that first step. The hardest one. Going from nothing to something real you can hold.

This is for you if...

No experience necessary. Seriously.

Artists

You want to build an installation but don’t know where to start with the electronics.

Musicians

Build your own MIDI controller, synth module, or something that doesn’t exist yet.

Tinkerers

You’ve been watching YouTube tutorials. Time to actually solder something.

Students

Your uni lab is booked and your dorm room doesn’t have an oscilloscope.

Founders

In the Arrayah accelerator and need somewhere to prototype hardware fast.

The Curious

You don’t even know what you want to build yet. That’s the best place to start.

Stocked and ready

Every o1 lab space is kitted out so you don't have to wait 3 weeks for a shipment from Shenzhen. Walk in, grab what you need, start building.

Our spaces run indefinitely. Not a pop-up. Not a 6-week program. Just here, whenever you need them.
